McDowell 3

McDowell Hall was named after William “Bill” P. McDowell, a Penn State alumnus and friend of the Shenango campus. McDowell’s initial gift to the Shenango campus, a $200,000 unitrust, was made in 1986. In 1987, the campus became the beneficiary of a $1.5 million bequest from his estate, which later was increased to $2.l million. Mr. McDowell was inducted into Penn State’s prestigious Mt. Nittany Society in 1985 and the George W. Atherton Society in 1988. The building, which houses the Penn State Bookstore, Learning Center, and Community Room, was named after Mr. McDowell for his generosity to and support of the campus.
