Screaming Orphans to Perform Evening Concert at Shenango Campus

9/12/2012 —

Sharon, Pa.—Penn State Shenango will host the Irish band The Screaming Orphans at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, in the Penn State Shenango auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The four Diver sisters from Bundoran, Donegal County, spend much of their time captivating and entertaining audiences between New York City and Donegal. Since an early age, the sisters have been singing and playing traditional Irish music as their mother's back-up band in Ireland. Once they hit their teenage years, they formed their own rock band—the Screaming Orphans.

While the sisters have never forgotten their roots in traditional Irish music, the group has absorbed many influences over the years and is renowned for their trademark spine-tingling four-part harmony which has led them to collaborations with such artists as Sinead O'Conner, Joni Mitchell, The Chieftains, Baaba Maal and the Afro Celt Sound system.

Their energetic live shows combine elements of both pop and traditional Irish music, which has been described as a "collision of gravel and honey," creating a unique show that has audiences captivated and wanting more.
