Dr. Jane A. Williams Memorial 5K & 1.5 Mile Walk

October 6th, 2012

Jane Williams Memorial 5K
The first annual Dr. Jane A Williams Memorial 5k and 1.5 mile walk on October 6, 2012 honors Jane Williams, a 25 year veteran staff member of the Penn State University, Shenango campus.  Born on November 21, 1959, this Irish girl attended Ursuline High School and later Youngstown State University for her Baccalaureate and Master’s degrees. In 1982, Jane received her Doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Akron. She married the love of her life, Donald “Fats” Williams, in April 1998.

Jane had a quiet, yet vibrant, personality, always ready to lend a listening ear or help others fight for what was right. Students, faculty and staff alike would gravitate to Jane for her comfort and guidance.

While Jane passed away in May of 2012, her vibrant legacy lives on. Her spirited nature and love for all things Penn State sparked the idea for a 5k. Jane enjoyed walking and running, particularly in the wee hours of the morning. In her office at Penn State, visitors would find evidence of her other loves: Tia, a Great Dane; Bailey, a King Charles spaniel; and Bridget, a St. Bernard.

On October, 6 2012, we will remember Jane and walk in her honor. All proceeds collected will benefit the Dr. Jane A. Williams Memorial Fund at Penn State Shenango.  A separate scholarship fund in Jane’s name will also be established at Penn State Shenango.
