Public resources for weather delays and cancellations.

The campus and off campus locations are closed only in severe weather.  If it becomes necessary to change school operating schedules due to weather or other conditions, we will utilize local media to notify staff, faculty, and students.  Please bear in mind that it may not always be possible to get the word out as rapidly as we might like, but the announcement to cancel classes or to delay the start of classes will be made at approximately 6a.m.

Note:  If the campus is closed all credit, non-credit, and activities at the Sharon campus are cancelled.

Announcements on campus closings/delays will be made on these stations:

PSUTXT

The PSUTXT messaging system will send text messages to your cell phone in the event of a campus emergency or campus closing. In order to receive these messages, you must go to http://live.psu.edu/psutxt and click on "PSUTXT Register". Penn State does not charge for this service, but your cell phone provider may charge a small fee for the text message. Penn State Shenango will only use this service for emergencies situations or campus closures. You may contact the Shenango I.T. department at (724) 983-2932 if you have any questions.

Types of Changes

DELAYED START:  If road conditions are hazardous only in the early morning hours, classes will begin at a specified time.  Example:  If there is a delayed start, it could be communicated that classes would resume at 10:00 a.m.  Employees should report to work at their regular scheduled time, however staff should use sound judgement and caution when reporting to work and contact their supervisor if their schedule needs to be altered.

ALL CLASSES CANCELLED:  All classes have been cancelled for the day and evening.  Employees should report to work at their regular scheduled time, however staff should use sound judgement and caution when reporting to work and contact their supervisor if their schedule needs to be altered.

CAMPUS CLOSED:  All classes have been cancelled for the day and evening.  Employees should not report to work.  Employees designated as Essential Services may be required to report to work.

To confirm if classes are cancelled due to inclement weather, please call Weather Delay Information at:  (724) 983-2980.

It is strongly recommended that all instructors set up "telephone chains" whereby the instructor phones a student and that student phones two others who continue the chain; or make e-mail communication the preferred method.
