Assistant Professor of English
Dr. Jamie Calhoun teaches first year writing courses (like English 4 and English 15) and many literature courses, including Multi-Ethnic Literature, Women Writers, Black American Literature, and American Literature after 1945. She loves teaching here at Shenango and has enjoyed getting to know her amazing, hard-working students.
Dr. Calhoun’s research interests include American multi-ethnic literature and social justice issues. She’s working on a couple of articles coming out of her dissertation. One considers hospitality to the “other” (the outsider from one’s self) as a kind of justice in two American novels, and the other considers the role of performance in contemporary African American literature.
Dr. Calhoun lived in Cincinnati before moving to Pittsburgh when she got the job at PSU Shenango. So far, she loves it here in Western PA. When she’s not teaching or grading, Jamie explores her new city, heading to museums, parks, and especially looking for great new places to eat. She and her husband have also traveled the world together, most recently going to Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, and Indonesia. She’s also been known to show off her bungee jump video.
