The purpose of the scholarship is to recognize full- and part-time students who have demonstrated outstanding academic accomplishment and leadership abilities and to provide assistance for students with financial need.

Penn State Shenango offers both merit and need-based scholarships, and annually awards more than $400,000 made possible by generous donations from campus alumni, local civic leaders, foundations, corporations, the University, and friends who wish to extend the opportunity of higher education to students.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARDING AND APPLICATION PROCEDURE  

 

All students must submit the FASFA-Free Application For Federal Student Aid- to be considered for need-based awards.  To receive maximum consideration, it is recommended that the application for admission be submitted by May 1, and that first-time Penn State students also complete the FAFSA online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ no later than February 15.  

Applicants for admission to Shenango campus are notified of their eligibility for merit scholarships. Students who are eligible for scholarship consideration based on academic records will receive Scholarship Packets, including the campus application, procedures, and filing deadlines shortly after they receive an offer to attend Penn State Shenango.  

Students currently attending Penn State Shenango should complete their Renewal FAFSA  by April 15 and have a class schedule in place for the following fall no later than May1.  If eligible for scholarship consideration, students will receive applications, instructions and deadlines by e-mail in early February.

  SCHOLARSHIPS AT PENN STATE SHENANGO  

 

 ALLEN
George H. Allen, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

The Allen scholarship was established in memory of long-time resident and Sharpsville School Board member, George H. Allen, by his family. It provides financial assistance to outstanding academic students who are enrolling in the campus undergraduate program. Adult students from Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, will receive first preference for this award.



BIEBER TRUSTEE

Henry and Dorothy Bieber Trustee Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Dottie Bieber. It provides financial assistance to undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Shenango who have a demonstrated need for funds to meet their necessary college expenses. This scholarship is part of the Penn State's Trustee Scholarship program and is matched by the University.



BONAQUIST

The Dante and Debbie Bonaquist Scholarship

The Dante and Debbie Bonaquist Scholarship was established by the Bonaquists to provide assistance to outstanding undergraduate students at Penn State Shenango who are engineering, science, or business majors and have financial need. Please address your thank you note to Mr. and Mrs. Dante Bonaquist. The Bonaquists both attended the Shenango campus for two years; graduated from Penn State University in 1980, Dante with a degree in engineering and Debbie with a degree in science; and are life members of the Penn State Alumni Association. The couple has the fondest of memories of the campus and is still in touch with a few of their professors some 30 years after graduation. Dante was awarded the 2008 Penn State Alumni Association Alumni Fellow in October 2008 and was the key speaker at this year’s McDowell Scholarship Dinner. He is chief scientist and senior corporate fellow at Praxair, Inc. He and Debbie live in Grand Island, New York and have three children.



BROWN
Dr. William E. Brown Scholarship

Established in memory of Dr. William E. Brown for his longtime commitment to the region, this scholarship recognizes the outstanding achievement of a student who is enrolled at Penn State Shenango.



CHADDERTON
Paul and Eleanor Chadderton Scholarship

This scholarship, established by Paul and Eleanor Chadderton, recognizes the achievement of students who are enrolled or about to enroll in the baccalaureate degree program in Business at Penn State Shenango. Please note: Mr. Paul Chadderton is an Honorary Alumni member of Penn State.



CONTI TRUSTEE
Dr. Joseph J. and Margaret Conti Trustee Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Mrs. Margaret Conti. It provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Shenango and who have demonstrated need for funds to meet their necessary college expenses. Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all undergraduate students who present positive academic records and have financial need. First preference shall be given to those undergraduate students who exemplify good citizenship, leadership, and have a good moral character.



COYNE
Patrick J. Coyne Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Patricia Coyne in memory of her husband, Patrick J. Coyne. Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all adult learner undergraduate students majoring or planning to major in Nursing at Penn State Shenango, who have achieved superior academic records or who manifest promise of outstanding academic success, and who have a demonstrated financial need. First preference shall be given to adult learner undergraduate students who meet the above mentioned criteria and who have children.



DAFFIN
Paul "Pete" Daffin Memorial Trustee Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Mrs. Jean Daffin and Ms. Diane Daffin in memory of their husband and father, Paul "Pete" Daffin, a successful business entrepreneur and community leader. The scholarship provides financial assistance to undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn state Shenango who have a demonstrated need for funds to meet their necessary college expenses. ERME
Mike Erme Trustee Scholarship
 

This scholarship, established by Mike Erme to support students with financial need, is part of Penn State’s Trustee Scholarship Program and is matched by the University.

EVANS
Henry and Catherine Evans Scholarship

This scholarship was created to assist Penn State Shenango students demonstrating superior academic performance and financial need. Henry and Catherine Evans provided strong leadership to the Shenango Valley for more than 50 years. Henry was CEO of Sharon Steel and was on the board of many local charities where he helped to raise millions of dollars for the community. Catherine was a life member of Sharon General Hospital’s Auxiliary and Mercer County Children’s Aid Auxiliary. Their scholarship is awarded annually to undergraduate students of Penn State Shenango who have demonstrated financial need. All undergraduate students are eligible to be considered.



EVANS
William T. and Jeanette C. Evans Scholarship

This scholarship was established by employees of the Shenango Valley Water Company in recognition of William Evans upon his retirement as president. It is available to students who are enrolled in the baccalaureate degree majors of business, engineering, or environmental science, and who have demonstrated financial need.



FIRST NATIONAL BANK
First National Bank of Pennsylvania Leadership Scholarship

This scholarship recognizes the achievement of a student's superior academic record and leadership qualities. First preference shall be given, but not limited, to children of employees of First National Bank of Pennsylvania. First National Bank of Pennsylvania is headquartered in Hermitage, PA.



GOLDSTONE
Arthur S. Goldstone Scholarship

Established by Roberta Goldstone, this scholarship honors her late husband, Arthur Goldstone, a Penn State graduate and Shenango Advisory Board member. Consideration shall be given to all undergraduate students enrolled at Penn state Shenango who demonstrate both academic excellence and financial need. Preference will be given to children of Goldstein’s Furniture who meet the other stated criteria.



HARRIS
Glenna Harris Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by family and friends in memory of Glenna Harris, a Penn State Shenango physical education faculty member and coach of the varsity women's basketball team. It is available to a student with an above average academic record who demonstrates financial need and is a resident of Sharpsville, Pennsylvania.



HARTMAN TRUSTEE
The Dallas and Kristina Hartman Trustee Scholarship 

Established by Dallas and Kristina Hartman of New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, this scholarship provides the needed resources to recruit and provide a high-quality education to area students who have achieved outstanding academic success. This scholarship is part of Penn State’s Trustee Scholarship Program and is matched by the University.

HEART OF SHENNAGO
The Heart of Shenango Scholarship

This four year full tuition scholarship was established by Penn State Shenango faculty, staff and maintenance workers in 2009 to inspire and support incoming Shenango students who possess the core values of the campus community. The recipient will represent the ideals that the faculty, staff and maintenance workers believe make Shenango campus so special: service, community, and academic success. The student must also demonstrate financial need. 

HELM
Anna Mae "Mo" Helm Scholarship

This award was established by family and friends in the memory of Anna Mae "Mo" Helm, a Penn State alumna and Shenango campus friend and advisory board member. It is awarded to a full-time incoming or current student who manifests promise of academic success and who has demonstrated leadership in high school, campus or community activities.



JOY CONE COMPANY
Joy Cone Company Scholarship

This scholarship, established by the Joy Cone Company in 2001, is available to all undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Shenango and who have achieved positive academic records. First preference shall be given, but not limited, to Joy Cone Company employees and their families. LISZKA
Mary Dudash Liska Memorial Scholarship

The Mary Dudash Liszka Memorial Scholarship was established by Ed and Jane Liszka in memory of Ed’s mother to provide assistance to a returning adult female student. Mary Liszka was an intelligent woman and a life-long learner who never had the opportunity to enjoy a formal education. “As a member of Penn State’s faculty, I can think of no better way to honor the memory of a truly unselfish person who spent her life putting the needs of others ahead of her own,” stated Dr. Edward Liszka, director, Penn State Applied Research Laboratory. “My mother would be so pleased to know that another woman, possibly in circumstances similar to hers, would be able to continue her education with financial help from this scholarship.”



MCDOWELL
William P. McDowell Scholarship

This scholarship was created through a generous endowment from William P. McDowell. It is awarded to superior students enrolled or planning to enroll through the early admission process, in the honors program, or in a specific degree. A total of $30,000 is awarded annually.



MARRIE FAMILY
Philip J. Marrie, Jr. Family Scholarship

Established to honor his 40 years as a community leader in the Shenango Valley, the Philip J. Marrie, Jr. Scholarship lauds this Penn Stater from the class of '63. This scholarship provides recognition to those students who have achieved outstanding academic success and have demonstrated financial need. Mr. Marrie was also a former president of the Penn State Shenango Advisory Board.



MATHIESON
Marilyn K. Mathieson Memorial Trustee Scholarship 

Established by Ruby and Alan Mathieson, this scholarship honors their daughter Marilyn K. Mathieson, a lifelong Shenango Valley resident, and is awarded based on academic achievement, school and community involvement, and financial need. Preference is given to students enrolled in Penn State Shenango’s Letters, Arts, and Sciences program.  This scholarship is part of Penn State’s Trustee Scholarship Program and is matched by the University.

MINORITY STUDENT
Minority Student Assistance Scholarship

Endowed by the Penn State Shenango Minority Affairs Community Advisory Board, this award will recognize a freshman student who has attained a 2.5 high school grade-point average or better. Preference will be given to student whose ethnic, cultural, and/or national background contribute to the diversity of the Penn State Shenango student body.



MURPHY
Michael W. Murphy Memorial Scholarship

The family and friends of Mr. Murphy established this scholarship in his memory to provide recognition and financial assistance to outstanding undergraduate students enrolled in the business program at Penn State Shenango. Preference shall be given to students who have also demonstrated leadership skills and who have served in the armed forces. NATIONAL CITY
National City Business Scholarship

This scholarship recognizes outstanding business students enrolled or planning to enroll at any of the six western Pennsylvania Commonwealth campuses. Because this scholarship rotates campuses, a Penn State Shenango student will receive this scholarship once every four years.



PENN CONTRACTING

The Penn Contracting of Irmo, South Carolina Scholarship

The Penn Contracting of Irmo, South Carolina Scholarship was established by Bob and Vera Summers and their nephew Chris Seinar, all of whom are owners of Penn Contracting, to be given to an undergraduate student who resides in Sharpsville and who has financial need. Bob Summers attended Penn State Shenango after graduating from Sharpsville in 1975. In 1979, he graduated from Penn State University, and he and his wife moved to South Caroline in 1984 in hopes of finding better jobs due to the dim economic situation in the early 1980s.



After graduating from Sharpsville High School in 1987, Chris also moved down south to attend the University of South Carolina where he graduated in 1992. For several years, Bob, Vera and Chris worked for several general contractors in the Columbia, South Carolina area. In 1998, the three decided to start their own construction business, which, according to Bob, “We had to call Penn Contracting.”



PENN STATE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION/PENN STATE SHENANGO ALUMNI SOCIETY TRUSTEE 
Penn State Alumni Association/ Penn State Shenango Alumni Society Trustee Scholarship for Penn State Shenango

This scholarship was originally established in support of For the Future: The Campaign for Penn State Students. The Penn State Alumni Association endowed thirty-five Trustee Scholarships for $50,000 each, one of which was designated for Penn State Shenango. In 2008, the Penn State Shenango Alumni Society unanimously agreed to match the Alumni Association’s $50,000 gift, thereby doubling the amount of scholarship money given to Shenango students. Funds donated to the campus are matched by the University and awarded to students who demonstrate both academic excellence and financial need. Penn State Shenango Campus Scholarship

This scholarship is a University scholarship awarded to excellent campus students who have financial need and who also have distinguished themselves by extracurricular involvement and service.



PENN STATE SHENANGO ENGLISH
Penn State Shenango English Scholarship

This award, established by Margaret Foley and other friends of the Shenango campus, recognizes full-time graduate students enrolled in a liberal arts degree program at Penn State Shenango. First preference is given to students majoring in English.



PENN STATE SHENANGO LIBERAL ARTS
Penn State Shenango Liberal Arts Scholarship

This scholarship, established by an anonymous donor, provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Shenango and who have demonstrated need for funds to meet their necessary college expenses. Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time undergraduate students who are in the College of Liberal Arts or The Eberly College of Science and who have achieved superior academic records or who manifest promise of outstanding academic success.



PENN STATE SHENANGO TRUSTEE
Penn State Shenango Trustee Scholarship

Trustee Scholarships are designed to assist academically superior students meet the rising cost of tuition and fees at Penn State Shenango. Funds donated to the local campus are matched by the University and area awarded to students who demonstrate both academic excellence and financial need.



PHILLIPS
Dr. and Mrs. Arthur William Phillips Scholarship

Consideration for this scholarship will be given to a full-time undergraduate student enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Shenango whose home address of record is in Butler, Crawford, Lawrence, Mercer, or Venango County in Pennsylvania, who manifest promise of academic success, and who have good moral character. Financial need may be a consideration; however, it is not a requirement.



PHILLIPS CHARTIABLE TRUST TRUSTEE

Primary Health Network Charitable Foundation Scholarship

The mission of the PHN Charitable Foundation is to empower donor-designated funds to contribute to the change the donors wish to see in the world by providing health career scholarships and supporting health-related programs. RELIABLE AUTOMATION DEVICES
RAD (Reliable Automation Devices) Engineering Scholarship

This scholarship was created by Jay Banick who attended Penn State Shenango in the mid 1980's. It provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at the Shenango campus. RESELE
Kimberly Anne and Julie Ann Resele Memorial Scholarship

Please address your thank you letter to Mr. and Mrs. Resele. This scholarship was established by Robert Resele in memory of daughters Kimberly Anne and Julie Ann Resele. Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Shenango who have achieved superior academic records or who manifest promise of outstanding academic success and who have a demonstrated financial need.



SCALZO
Joel J. Scalzo Award

This award was established by the Joel R. Scalzo in honor of his father, Joel J. Scalzo. The award will honor and recognize the scholastic achievement of a full-time undergraduate student who is enrolled or planning to enroll in Penn State Shenango. Students applying to Penn State Shenango are invited to apply based on academic achievement. The recipient of this award must demonstrate academic promise, be of Italian descent, and demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to a resident of New Castle, Pennsylvania.



SHANNON
Anna Stewart Shannon Scholarship

The late William F. Shannon established this scholarship in memory of his mother, Anna Stewart Shannon, to provide recognition and financial assistance to outstanding students enrolled or planning to enroll in the bachelor of science degree in nursing program at Penn State Shenango. SHANNON

William Shannon Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the late William F. Shannon in memory of his father, William Shannon. It is available to all full-time undergraduate students who are pursuing a baccalaureate or associate degree in the Human Development and Family Studies program and who are in good standing academically and have demonstrated financial need. SHARONSTEEL FOUNDATION
Sharonsteel Foundation Scholarship

This award, which is a four-year full tuition scholarship to Penn State, was established by the Sharonsteel Foundation. Students applying to Penn State Shenango are invited to apply based on academic achievement. The recipient is selected based on academic achievement, school and community involvement, financial need, and recommendation. Preference will be given to a Shenango Valley resident.



SHARONSTEEL TRUSTEE
Sharonsteel Trustee Scholarship at Penn State Shenango
 

This scholarship was established by The Sharonsteel Foundation, under the direction of Sharonsteel Trustee Malvin Sander, to help students with great academic potential afford their education. The recipient is selected based on academic achievement, school and community involvement, financial need, and recommendation. This scholarship is part of Penn State’s Trustee Scholarship Program and is matched by the University.



SHENANGO CAMPUS ADVISORY BOARD
Shenango Campus Advisory Board Scholarship

Established by the Penn State Shenango Advisory Board, these scholarships recognize students with exemplary qualities of scholarship, leadership, citizenship, and service to the campus and community. Shenango Women’s Commission Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Shenango Women’s Commission, an active club at the Shenango campus made up of Penn State Shenango students, staff and faculty. This scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding adult female undergraduate students who demonstrate need for funds to meet their necessary college expenses. SNYDER
Denise Snyder Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by family and friends of Denise Snyder in her memory. Snyder, a Hickory High School student, died in 1987. This scholarship is available to a graduate of Mercer County high school who has demonstrated leadership ability, has been involved in school activities, has maintained an above average grade-point average, and has the potential to contribute to the Penn State Shenango campus.



SNYDER
Shirley A. Snyder Scholarship
This scholarship was established by family and friends in memory of Shirley A. Snyder, head librarian at the Shenango campus for twenty-five years. It is awarded to an outstanding student who is enrolled in a baccalaureate degree program at Penn State Shenango.

WEBER
Robert E. Weber Memorial Scholarship

This award was established in the memory of Dr. Robert E. Weber, former assistant professor of mathematics at Penn State Shenango. It is awarded to a student who has achieved academic excellence in mathematics at the campus.



WERNER
Leo L. Werner Scholarship 

This scholarship was established by the former Werner Co. of Greenville, Pennsylvania. It is awarded to students enrolled or planning to enroll at the Shenango campus who have achieved a positive academic record, manifest promise of outstanding academic success, and have demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to Werner Co. employees or their family members.



WOLVES/PROTECTED HOME MUTUAL
Farrell Wolves Club/Protected Home Mutual Life Insurance Company Scholarship

The Scholarship was established by the Farrell Wolves Club and the Protected Home Mutual Life Insurance Company.  AWARDS AT PENN STATE SHENANGO

The Robert E. Weber Memorial Award

Each year one or more cash awards are made during the annual spring campus awards banquet in memory of Dr. Robert E. Weber.  Dr. Weber was a faculty member of the Shenango campus mathematics department from 1975-1980.  These awards will go to students who have demonstrated academic excellence in mathematics.   

The Dennis  W. Bartholomew Outstanding Adult Award

This award, established by Sandy Bartholomew to memorialize her late husband Dennis W. Bartholomew, will be awarded to an adult student over the age of 21 who has completed at least 36 credits and who has overcome difficult circumstances in the pursuit of an education. Special consideration is given to students who make a contribution to the campus and community by bringing awareness to the needs of adult students.

The Eric A. and Josephine Walker Award

This Penn State award recognizes students whose outstanding qualities of character, scholarship, leadership, and citizenship have been directed into programs and services that influence fellow students and contribute to the prestige and reputation of the campus.

The Ann Wansack Student Award

This award was made in memory of Penn State Shenango employee, Ann "Mom" Wansack, and her devotion to the students of Shenango campus.  The purpose of this award shall be to honor and recognize full-time students enrolled at Penn State Shenango who are actively involved, through leadership or participation, for the betterment of Penn State Shenango.
