STUDENTS


  • GOAL #1: The student will competently perform all entry-level skills for practice as a physical therapist assistant working under the direction and supervision of the licensed physical therapist.
  • GOAL #2: The student will develop critical thinking skills for academic and clinical practice.
  • GOAL #3: The student will develop skills for continued competence.
  • GOAL #4: The student will develop sensitivity to individual and cultural differences.
  • GOAL #5: The student will develop skills to self-assess both professionally and personally for continued growth and development.
  • GOAL #6: The student will demonstrate an understanding of their role and scope of practice within the profession and healthcare field and the importance of educating others regarding their role.
  • GOAL #7: The student will demonstrate social responsibility and advocate for the profession.



FACULTY


  • GOAL #1: Faculty will demonstrate role model behavior and service.
  • GOAL #2: Faculty will perform continued competence and professional development.
  • GOAL #3: Faculty will be resources to students, consumers, and the community.



PROGRAM


  • GOAL #1: Faculty will honor the University and campus missions and demonstrate commitment to meet the needs of the community, students, consumers, and patients in an effort to ensure quality through a student-centered approach.
    A.  The PTA Program admission and enrollment processes, as supported by the University, will support the mission of the program and reflect the needs of the regional workforce.
    B.  Graduates will be employed at a variety of physical therapy settings.
    C.  PTA faculty and students will participate in the promotion of health and wellness of our community.
  • GOAL #2: The PTA Program will provide students with a quality education of contemporary PT practice taught by highly qualified faculty, proper allocation of resources, excellent clinical experiences, and curricula modeled by the Normative Model of Physical Therapist Assistant Education and the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education's Evaluative Criteria.
    A.  The PTA Program will employ highly competent faculty exemplifying the knowledge of current physical therapy practice to educate the students.
    B.  The PTA Program faculty will develop and implement curricula consistent with the Normative Model of Physical Therapist Education and the Evaluative Criteria
    C.  The PTA Program Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education will establish a quality clinical education program providing clinical affiliations with knowledge clinicians in a variety of experiences.

  • GOAL #3:  The Physical Therapist Assistant Program and its faculty will prepare the graduates to provide appropriate physical therapy services in an ethical, legal, and safe manner under the direction and supervision of the licensed physical therapy.
    A.  Graduates will pass the national physical therapist assistant licensure exam.
    B.  Graduates will competently perform entry-level skills, data collection, and selected intervention techniques operating as an effective health care team member within the plan of care and under the direction and supervision of the licensed physical therapist.
    C.  Graduates will practice legally and ethically consistent with the Standards of Ethical Conduct for the Physical Therapist Assistant.
